a new review

There is a new, amazing, gorgeous, knock-me-over-with-a-feather review of Amor en Retrogrado on Obsidian's blog here.

I've got another complex murder mystery featuring Bill Turner, his partner and Christopher, in edits at the moment. Different sort of book, but Bill and Christopher's story is advanced somewhat. Not sure when we will be done with it. I unloaded the whole mess on my editor and then ran away laughing bwahaha.

  1. Hi, A.M., thanks for the link! Oh, I'm glad you liked the review -- Kassa and I were telling each other on the comments that we were almost intimidated to try to review it because it was that good. We just couldn't do it justice. It was an awesome read!

So I'm really excited to know that there may be kind of a sequel of sorts! Would Robert and JD make a reappearance? I can see how you'd want to focus on Bill and Christopher because their story is just beginning towards the end of Amor en Retrogrado. How very cool! I'm going to be really looking forward to this! And as long as I'm peppering you with questions, do you know if you'll be writing anything more with Adam and Peter? Or is it too soon to say? I got the feeling that you could stop with this latest book No Rest if you wanted with full closure, but I don't think any of us would mind seeing more. :)

  2. yikes.

Okay, firstly thanks so much for your kind words about AeR. That book took me a really long time to write. I think about four years. So it was meaty and difficult to finally release.

The 'sequel' is not a 'sequel' in the sense that it is like AeR. There is a huge cast, several points of view, and Bill and Chistopher. I think I managed the pov shifts a little better now that I've got some experience and a stern editing hand on my tiller. (ooh, that sounded sexy)

Robert and JD have been on an extended honeymoon someplace hot. JD stomped Roberts Blackberry to death a while ago and I'm leaving them alone. :P The new book is called 'Death by Misfortune'. It will be released by Loose id, and features an entirely new group of people with an entirely new group of issues.

    I like issues.

I plan another Adam and Peter but it takes so long for me to write these things, I always try to end on a positive this-could-be-it note.

"Son of a Gun" is the first book I've written with a cliff hangar because I'd already started a sequel, and I'm already feeling the pressure which is a ghastly feeling. Just the thought of Stefan Sanchez, currently on the run in a stolen vehicle, makes my stomach twinge.

  3. Take some deep breaths, AM. We love your writing. :)

And I really appreciate the "this-could-be-it" endings. I've stopped reading more than one series because of cliffhangers.

  4. Ha, ha! I can be that way about questions. It's like feeding a stray cat -- give me the slightest encouragement, and I'll be showing up at the blog on a regular basis. :)

That book took me a really long time to write. I think about four years.

Wow. I can believe it. It was very complex. We need more stories like that in our genre, seriously. It seems as if so many m/m books are dashed off within 6 weeks and they all blur into this huge, forgettable mass. This one really stood out in my mind as unforgettable.

stern editing hand on my tiller. (ooh, that sounded sexy)

    Yes, it did, ha, ha!

Outstanding! I am so looking forward to this.

I plan another Adam and Peter

Even more outstanding! I was just awed by Amor en Retrogrado and (even more recently) The Elegant Corpse both, but I think I connected closest on a personal level with Adam and Peter's story. I just read What to Buy for the Vamp Who Has Everything the other night, and found it so emotionally wrenching! In a good way, ha, ha!

but it takes so long for me to write these things

I can understand that. Take as long as you need. We readers will still be here. As Chris says, "Take some deep breaths, AM. We love your writing. :)

"Son of a Gun" is the first book I've written with a cliff hangar because I'd already started a sequel,

Whoa, a cliffhanger. I hope that sequel is coming out soon! Thanks again for all your patient answers. :)

  5. erg, I misspoke. The new book will be released by MLR press.

I admire authors who are able to release books frequently. I believe if I could do that I might be able to write more and work less. Which is, of course, the dream. Not that writing isn't work. But it's the kind of work I like.

I think everyone must struggle with the quantity/vs/quality issue. I do the best I can as much as I can and always wish I could set the bar higher and jump it faster.

  6. No, no, not to worry. You're doing just fine. I'm thinking one to two releases per year is very respectable and that seems to be what you're averaging (at least from what we readers can see on our side of the equation with the release dates).

We reviewers and readers love to toss this question around: quantity? quality? And quality is what we really want (provided it doesn't take something like a release every 5 years, ha, ha!).

  7. I just finished reading, "Son of a Gun" today and loved it! My jaw did drop at how it ended and thought, I hope there is a sequel! I would love to see Stefan and Evans develop a relationship...as hard as this may be for Stefan with his issues. I think Evans would be a supportive partner in Stefan's growth. I would also love to see a closure with Chet. For them to talk. Really enjoyed this book and the suspense (how can the turd kill his own son?!?!?!?) I look forward to the sequel! Good job!
